I have left my full-time positions at Craftsbury, and am now the assistant strength and conditioning coach for Norwich University in nearby Northfield, Vermont. I’m excited for the opportunity, grateful to Director of S&C Scott Caulfield and the University of Denver MA in Sport Coaching program that connected us originally back in 2016, and I’m enjoying the new role since starting earlier this month.
Goodbyes are always hard, but this is all on good terms. I may continue with the Green Racing Project teams as a consultant, and I might guest-coach a summer sculling camp or two. Those would both be very part-time involvements, though, and rowing is not one of the 22 women’s and men’s teams at Norwich. I’m putting my online work into hibernation until at least summer (2025) while I figure out the new routines, life schedule, and available time. Feel free to stay subscribed here, and I’ll only email out in the event of substantive news worth your attention.
All of my existing content will remain available on my website, Youtube channel, here on Substack (archives), and the “Rowing Stronger” book in PDF from my website and in print from Blurb.com (and in the Craftsbury office/store, while supplies last). I’ll still reply to comments and emails as my time allows.
I posted my last two finished Substack posts, which you can read here: Landmine Belt Squat exercise spotlight, and notes from my sculling camp workshop this year on “Five Essential Skills for Rowers.”
Thank-you to everyone who has engaged with and supported my work over these last nearly 10 years since I started writing online. Hearing from you online and at events and camps that this is helpful for you has kept me going. I hope that you will continue to use my work in your contexts to help yourself and/or the rowers you coach to row stronger, faster, healthier, and for longer!
Good luck with the new job. "A change is as good as a rest." And thanks so much for all of your great advice. Even at 67 and 65 my brother and I are one of the fastest coxless pairs out of the blocks thanks to you.
Best Wishes for the future
Colin and Jane
